This program is to collect data to map flood-prone areas for land-use management and the planning and designing of flood management systems such as bridges, culverts and levees. REQUEST: A resolution, authorizing the Mayor to enter into an intergovernmental agreement between the County of Hawaii and the U.S. Geological survey (USGS) for the purposes of continuing the cooperative flood- monitoring program on the island of Hawaii. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): This agreement with the USGS is an annuallybudgeted, joint funding agreement where the County of g Hawaii contributes $44,696 toward the flood-monitoring program for the collection of long-term systematic data of annual peak streamflow. The data collected is used to map flood-prone areas for land use management, and planning and designing flood mamangement systems such as bridges, culverts, and levees. Request that this Resolution waive the Finance Committee to be heard at County Council due to the time sensitivity of this agreement.
