No. 443/Bill No. 67 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:07 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 67, reports as follows: <br /> Bill No. 67, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, via Communication No. 443, dated August 22, <br /> 2017, amends Ordinance No. 07-136, which reclassified lands from Single-Family Residential— <br /> 10,000 Square Feet(RS-10) to Industrial-Commercial Mixed—20,000 Square Feet (MCX-20) at <br /> Waiakea, South Hilo, Hawai`i, covered by Tax Map Key: 2-2-036:090. <br /> (Applicant: Rodney Tanaka) (Area: 22,500 Square Feet) <br /> Mayor Kim forwarded the Windward Planning Commission's favorable recommendation for this <br /> amendment, which would allow a five-year time extension to Condition C, time to complete <br /> construction. The project is located at the corner of the intersection of Lanikaula Street and <br /> Hinano Street, and provides for a 9,075 square foot building to be used as a warehouse space, an <br /> office, and a showroom. <br /> Deputy Planning Director Arai stated that the applicant, Rodney Tanaka, was present in the <br /> audience. He said that this rezoning was issued in 2007, with an administrative extension to <br /> complete the project issued in 2013. Mr. Arai then stated that the applicant secured plan <br /> approval and obtained a building permit for a warehouse structure, and that the Planning <br /> Commission issued a favorable recommendation for this request. <br /> Several Council Members commented with support.
