Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 437, reports as follows:
Communication No. 437, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated August 29, 2017, nominates
George Campbell of Council District 6 to the Hawai`i County Salary Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced George Campbell. Mr. Campbell
is retired from the University of California system and has extensive experience in human resource
management, safety, environmental protection, and cultural sensitivity practices. He is currently
President and Treasurer for Hawaiian Ocean View Estate Road Maintenance Corporation,
Vice President of Ocean View Community Development Corporation, Chair of Na`alehu United
Methodist Church, and a member of the church's band. If confirmed, he will serve to fill an unexpired
term ending December 31, 2017, and will qualify for re-appointment to a full five-year term.
Mr. Campbell stated that it would be an honor to serve on the Salary Commission. Several Council
Members expressed support of Mr. Campbell's appointment to the commission.
Chair Maile David informed Mr. Campbell that he did not need to appear before the full Council for
confirmation and noted same for the record.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-28 of the Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a Salary
Commission, which shall consist of nine members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the
Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 437, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of George Campbell to the Hawai`i County Salary
Commission.
