Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Nelson H. Harano of Council District 7 to the salary
commission. Mr. Harano is currently employed as a tax manager for Aloha Business
Services, Inc. in Kailua-Kona. He previously worked as a senior tax accountant and a
small business owner in Washington state for many years.
Mr. Harano was born and raised in Kona and is a graduate of Konawaena High School.
He obtained a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Accounting from UH
Manoa and a Masters in Taxation from Golden Gate University, Seattle campus.
Mr. Harano recently returned home after living on the mainland for over 20 years and
states that he would like to volunteer his time to be a voice for his community. He was
active in Seattle having served as a Boy Scout scoutmaster, Board of Director for the
Seattle Buddhist Temple, and Treasurer for the Wisteria View Housing.
Mr. Harano is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve an unfilled
term ending December 31, 2017 and will subsequently be eligible for re-appointment to
a full 5-year term.
