Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Jay Furfaro of Council District 3 to the Board of Appeals.
Mr. Furfaro is a former Councilmember of the Kauai County Council having served as
Chair and Vice Chair. He recently served as the Kauai Mayor's Administrator for
Boards and Commissions. Prior to running for public office, Mr. Furfaro spent over 40
years in hotel management having worked with the Princeville Corporation, Radisson,
Outrigger Hotels, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, and Westin, to name a few.
Mr. Furfaro is also a former director of the Kauai Museum, member of the Kauai County
Planning Commission, Kauai Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, and many more.
He also founded several non-profit organizations including Leadership Kauai and
Hospitality Concepts, an asset survey company that honors land and heritage.
Mr. Furfaro was born and raised in Waianae, Oahu. Most of his adult life was spent in
Kauai where he married, worked, and raised his family. He recently relocated to the Big
Island after the passing of his wife and to live closer to his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Furfaro states he is a registered Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term ending
December 31, 2021.
