Mr. Hoffmann retired as a Vice President and Regional President for NRG Energy, Inc., a leading energy company in the U.S., where he managed and developed large power plants in the western United States. Mr. Hoffmann holds a BA degree in Biology from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since retiring to North Kohala approximately 2 years ago, Mr. Hoffmann founded the Kohala Science Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the STEM program at Kohala Schools. He also serves as Secretary of the Kohala Lions Club. Mr. Hoffmann firmly "believes that every citizen should get involved with initiatives that enhance the qualify of life for every member of their community". Originally from Iowa who later moved to California, Steve and his wife Diann, have made North Kohala their permanent home. Mr. Hoffmann states he is not affiliated with any political party.
