RESOLUTION NO. 3G2
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MO`OKINI LUAKINI
INC., TO ASSIST WITH TRANSPORTATION COSTS FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING
THE ANNUAL MO`OKINI LUAKINI CHILDREN'S DAY.
WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization that
perpetuates the history of Mo`okini Heiau by sharing its cultural significance with the children of
Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, Mo`okini Heiau is located in North Kohala and is one of the oldest
historical sites in the Hawaiian Islands, and was declared a National Historic Landmark on
December 29, 1962, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966; and
WHEREAS, in 1978 Leimomi Lum Kahuna Nui of Mo`okini Heiau lifted the restrictive
kapu forbidding anyone but ali`i and kahuna from entering the heiau and dedicated it first to the
children of Hawai`i and later to the children of the world; and
WHEREAS, Leimomi Lum Kahuna Nui of Mo`okini Heiau has hosted the Annual
Mo`okini Luakini Children's Day event for 35 years, engaging students in the regal history of
Mo`okini Heiau and promoting the importance of protecting its cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with transportation
costs for students in outlying rural areas to attend the Annual Mo`okini Luakini Children's Day;
and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to Mass Transit Agency
to provide a grant to Mo`okini Luakini Inc.,to assist with transportation for the Annual Mo`okini
Luakini Children's Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Mass Transit Administrator and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
