RESOLUTION NO. 365 i
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MO`OKINI LUAKINI,
INC., TO ASSIST WITH TRANSPORTATION EXPENSES FOR STUDENTS TO
ATTEND THE MO`OKINI LUAKINI "CHILDREN'S DAY" EVENT IN NORTH
KOHALA.
WHEREAS, the Mo`okini Luakini Heiau in North Kohala, built around the year 480
A.D., is the oldest and most significant heiau in Hawai`i and was registered in 1962 as Hawai`i's
first National Historic Landmark; and
WHEREAS, the Mo`okini Luakini "Children's Day" event is held annually in
November, and is hosted by descendant Kahu Leimomi Mo`okini Lum to allow Hawai`i Island
students to engage in the history of this cultural site, and to learn the importance of protecting
Hawaiian heritage; and
WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created in
1979 to preserve the Mo`okini Luakini Heiau in North Kohala; and
WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with transportation
costs for students from schools across Hawai`i Island to participate at the Mo`okini Luakini
"Children's Day" event at the Mo`okini Heiau in North Kohala on November 3, 2017; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Mass Transit
Agency to provide a grant to Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., to assist with student transportation
expenses to attend the Mo`okini Luakini "Children's Day" event on November 3, 2017.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Mass Transit Administrator and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
