Re: Operating Budget
The State of Hawai`i Department of Defense is providing funding under the Department
of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Grants Program- FY 2017 to
the Hawai`i County Civil Defense Agency. These federally-derived funds of$105,000
will be used to purchase specialized equipment to enhance the capability of state and
county agencies to prevent and respond to incidents of terrorism and other hazards.
$600,000 has already been appropriated for this grant.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating these
additional funds into the Department's State Homeland Security Program FY17 account,
and bringing the total grant appropriation to $705,000.
The Civil Defense Agency requests that this bill be waived from the Finance Committee
and be placed on the November 2, 2017 Council agenda in order to expedite the receipt
of these funds. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Talmadge Magno,
Civil Defense Administrator at 935-0031.
