Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 520, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 520, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 29, 2017,
nominates Mr. James McCully to the Hawai`i County Board of Appeals.
Mr. McCully has been a resident of Hawai`i for 44 years and is not affiliated with any political
party. If confirmed, he will serve a vacant term ending December 31, 2021.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. McCully who appeared in
person for this nomination.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. McCully. The vote was then taken with
eight Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. McCully did not need to appear
at the Council meeting on November 2, 2017, for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Section 6-9.2 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the Board of Appeals shall
be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 520, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of James McCully to the Hawai`i
County Board of Appeals.
