Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 522, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 522, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 29, 2017,
nominates Mr. Jeffrey Coakley to the Hawai`i County North Kohala Community Development
Plan Action Committee.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Coakley who appeared in
person. Mr. Coakley is employed with the County of Hawai`i as a Sr. Pool Lifeguard and states
that he is a registered Republican. If confirmed, Mr. Coakley will serve a term ending
September 9, 2020.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Coakley. The vote was then taken with
eight Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. Coakley did not need to appear
at the Council meeting on November 2, 2017, for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article 3, Section 16-5 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Community Development
Plan Action Committees shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 522, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Jeffrey Coakley to the Hawai`i
County North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee.
