Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 523, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 523, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 29, 2017,
nominates Mr. Sheldon Emeliano to the Hawai`i County North Kohala Community Development
Plan Action Committee.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, provided information regarding
Mr. Emeliano's nomination. Ms. Bautista stated that Mr. Emeliano was born and raised in
Kohala and stated that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, Mr. Emeliano
will serve a term ending September 9, 2020.
Mr. Emeliano was not available for this nomination, and in the interest of time Council Members
decided to move this nomination forward, expecting Mr. Emeliano to be available at the next
Council meeting. The vote was then taken with eight Council Members voting"aye." Chair
Eoff stated that Mr. Emeliano must appear at the Council meeting on November 2, 2017, for
confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article 3, Section 16-5 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Community Development
Plan Action Committees shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 523, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Sheldon Emeliano to the Hawaii
County North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee.
