Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 524, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 524, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 29, 2017,
nominates Mr. Steve Hoffmann to the Hawai`i County North Kohala Community Development
Plan Action Committee.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, announced that Mr. Hoffmann is
currently out of the State and that he would be available at the November 2, 2017 Council
meeting in Hilo. Ms. Bautista stated that Mr. Hoffmann was born and raised in Kohala and that
he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, Mr. Hoffmann will serve a term ending
September 9, 2020.
Council Member Kanuha voiced concern that Mr. Hoffmann was unknown to this committee.
The vote was then taken with seven Council Members voting"aye" and Council Member
Poindexter voting"no." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. Hoffmann must appear at the Council
meeting on November 2, 2017, for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article 3, Section 16-5 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Community Development
Plan Action Committees shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 524, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Steve Hoffmann to the Hawai`i
County North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee.
