Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 525, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 525, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 29, 2017,
nominates Mr. John Olson to the Hawai`i County North Kohala Community Development Plan
Action Committee.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Olson who appeared in
person from the Kohala site. Mr. Olson stated that he has lived in Kohala for four years, and that
he is registered with the democratic party. If confirmed, Mr. Olson will serve a term ending
September 9, 2021.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Olson. The vote was then taken with eight
Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. Olson did not need to appear at the
Council meeting on November 2, 2017, for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article 3, Section 16-5 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Community Development
Plan Action Committees shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 525, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of John Olson to the Hawai`i County
North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee.
