Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 342-17, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 342-17, transmitted by Finance Director Collins Tomei, via Communication
No. 504 dated September 29, 2017, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the
Office of Research Services, University of Hawai`i.
This agreement provides $15,000 from the Department of Research and Development to the
Office of Research Services, University of Hawaii, to fund its "Long-term Responses of Coffee
Rootstocks to Root-knot Nematode (RKN) in Kona"research proposal. Funds would be used to
educate and assist farmers on how to effectively replant affected farms with nematode-resistant
grafted coffee trees.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 342-17,
and recommends its adoption.
