Dear Mr.Kanuha and County Council Members:
Please support Bill 13 as recommended by the Environmental Management Commission to ban certain styrofoam
containers.
Our island is in a unique position to be a leader in environmental quality.Styrofoam is known to be harmful to our
environment and we must do all we can to protect the flora and fauna of our island and its surrounding waters.
Bill 13 is a minimum step to doing what is right for our Aina.
Other communities around the world are taking huge steps to protect the environment. Seattle is in the process of
banning plastic straws and utensils. Maybe we can do that next. Many of our local businesses are setting the pace
and are already using eco-friendly materials.
Hawaii County has banned plastic bags and we all adjusted and it has worked quite well. Let's keep moving
forward and take the next step of banning styrofoam containers.There is plenty of wiggle room as it is written,so
adjusting should not be a problem.
Please support Bill 13 and then consider what our next step should be to help our island's environment.
