Dear Mayor Harry Kim and the County of Hawaii Council Members,
The time is now-BAN POLYSTYRENE FOAM FOOD CONTAINERS AND FOOD SERVICE WARE!! The time is
now because plastic knows no time. Our behavior is the only thing we can change!
I support the passage of Bill 13
Have any of you been to Kamilo Beach at Kaimlo Point? This is a living testament that we must change our
behavior and stop using plastics. We have limited life spans-PLASTIC DOES NOT.
72%of marine debris in Hawaii consist of plastic. (Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2004)
More than 180 marine species are known to eat plastics, including endangered species like sea turtles and
albatross. Scientists project that Styrofoam and other plastics will be found in 99%of seabirds by 2050
(Proceedings from the National Academy of Sciences, 2015)
We must project our precious Hawaii, environment and force change on our community NOW!
