HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0382.017 2016-2018 From: Myra Hammonds COUNTY OF` `; ll To: Council Testimony Subject: Council Resolution 250-17 ! Date: Tuesday,September 05,2017 2:28:25 PM 2011 SEP -5 t' 1 2 To whom it may concern, I am a resident of West Hawaii for over 40 years. As far as my back ground stands I am a licensed massage therapist in the State of Hawaii for 23 years. I recently read the article regarding the "Council Resolution 250-17" with the phases I-III. As a Hawaii tax payer "I oppose"of all three phases. The use of Doc 250 traps to trap and kill mongoose? First of all is the Doc 250 trap legal to be used in the United States? I do not understand that this would be considered humane for the County to agree with lethally trapping animals, killing that animal by crushing it to death? Is there a method that would monitor non-targeted species such as small cats and the very birds they are trying to protect to not get killed in this trap? Also the feral cats should not be bated and "lured" to the West Hawaii Sewage Treatment Plant. The cats at the harbor near to the West Hawaii Sewage Treatment Plant are under a long standing management feeding program with volunteers and with the help of AdvoCATS "Trap Neuter Return Management" (TNRM) program. And finally shooting down with air rifles killing cattle egrets is inhumane. Are the cattle egrets hurting anything, are they on the invasive species list? I know that the "Fire Ants" are on the invasive species list for Hawaii. With what I have just presented for you I trust that you will want to vote "no" at this upcoming meeting. I appreciate your time and if you need to contact me with questions and concerns please do so at your convenience through email, phone or letter by mail. Mahalo Nui Loa Sincerely, Myra G.
