Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was referred
/Resolution No. 179-86 , reports as follows:
The purpose of this resolution is to support efforts to establish
General Lyman Airport as a customsand immigration point of entry
facility to ease the discomforts and inconveniences of foreign
arrivals currently existing at the Honolulu International Airport .
The congestion at the Honolulu International Airport has created
inconveniences such as lengthy customs and immigration checks . This
could manifest bad impressions upon Hawaii as a visitor
destination. Hilo 's General Lyman Airport could relieve the burden
on Honolulu International Airport as it is well equipped to handle
overseas passengers and capable of expediting foreign arrivals
through customs and immigration checks .
Your Committee concurs with the Resolution 179-86 and recommends its
adoption.
