Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was referred
Resolution No . 217-86 regarding the improvements to Keahole Airport ,
reports as follows:
The purpose of this resolution is to urge the Governor , the State
Legislature , the State Department of Planning and Economic
Development, and the State Department of Transportation to proceed
with timely improvements to Keahole Airport .
West Hawaii is currently experiencing tremendous growth and
development . With indication of increased development and
anticipated increase in visitor travel , it is incumbent upon
government to proceed with the expansion of Keahole Airport .
Improvements are necessary to lengthen and strengthen the runways at
Keahole to accommodate fully-loaded, wide-bodied aircrafts .
Your Committee concurs with Resolution No . 217-86 and recommends its
adoption .
