Your Committee on Economic Development to which was referred
'!Resolution No . 306-87 , reports as follows :
The purpose of Resolution is to welcome the National New Technology
Telescope and its scientists to Hawaii and express its support for
the astronomical pursuits currently underway.
The National Optical Astronomy Observatories has designated Mauna
Kea as the site for the National New Technology Telescope , which
will be the world 's largest telescope . The selection of Mauna Kea
confirms its status as the world 's leading center for astronomical
research .
Your Committee on Economic Development concurs with Resolution
No . 306-87 and recommends its adoption by the County Council .
