Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was referred
/Resolution No. 339-87 , reports as follows:
The purpose of this resolution is to urge the State Legislature to
take action and reach a compromise to deliver a convention center
site within or next to Waikiki by the end of the next legislative
session.
The Committee recognizes that a convention center would enhance
economic development throughout the State by stimulating existing
industries and diversifying the economy. Economic benefits include
the creation of thousands of new jobs, the expansion of tax revenues
and an increase in new direct and indirect convention business
spending . The Committee believes that a convention center would have
positive overtones on the County.
Your Committee concurs with Resolution No . 339-87 and recommends its
adoption .
