Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was referred
Communication No. 1420 , submitting the Mayor 's appointment of
Mr . Minoru Shintani as Director of the Department of Research and
Development , reports as follows:
Pursuant to Section 5-5 . 2, Hawaii County Charter , the director of
Research and Development shall be appointed by the mayor and
confirmed by the Council.
Mr . Minoru Shintani has served as Deputy Director of Research and
Development since December 1984. He is credited with successfully
coordinating major events such as the 1985 Australian Federation of
Travel Agents Convention, Coors International Bicycle Classic, and
Miss Teen of America Pageant . Mr . Shintani has established a strong
network of contacts in the community while serving as deputy
director .
Your Committee finds Mr . Minoru Shintani to be qualified for the
position of Director of the Department of Research and Development
and recommends his confirmation.
