Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Marcia Brinkley of District 9, to the Veterans Advisory
Committee. Ms. Brinkley served in the US Army from 1974-1990 first as Private First
Class (PFC) student nurse, then as an army nurse in the Army Nurse Corps where she
retired as a major. Upon retiring from the military, Ms. Brinkley became a lawyer, a
nurse consultant and a writer: She retired again in 2014. Ms. Brinkley holds a BS in
Nursing from the University of Maryland, an MBA from the Western New England
College,and a JD (Juris Doctor) from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.
Ms. Brinkley has been a resident of Hawai'i for approximately 8 years and has
volunteered with numerous community organizations on the island. She also
co-authored a book entitled, "51 Fallen Heroes of Hawai'i County", a book honoring
men from Hawai'i who were killed in Vietnam.
Ms. Brinkley states she is a registered Democrat. If confirmed, she will serve a term
ending December 31, 2022
