Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred
/Communication No. 399 , reports as follows:
Communication No. 399 is a cover memorandum from
Councilwoman Merle K. Lai to committee chairman Takashi Domingo and
members of the Committee on Planning, enclosing copies of material
she had received from Walter C. Miller , containing his ideas as to
how the grounds and facilities of the old General Lyman Field can be
best utilized .
Mr . Miller is a semi-retired resident of Hilo who has had 35 years of
experience in various phases of the aircraft industry. His proposal
is to establish a cargo and maintenance complex on the site which, in
turn, should attract other related businesses .
Mr . Miller is aware of the fact that a study is currently being
conducted to determine the feasibility of using Lyman Field as an air
cargo distribution center and as an air maintenance complex.
Mr . Miller requested that his proposal be considered as an
alternative use of the facilities if the study should reveal that a
cargo distribution center would not be an economical use of
Lyman Field.
Councilwoman Merle Lai requested that Mr . Miller 's proposal be
forwarded to the County Council along with a recommendation that the
proposal be supported by resolution, as an alternative use of
Lyman Field. As such, a resolution is being submitted to the
County Council for consideration.
