Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Dr. Nan Sumner-Mack of District 2, to the County of
Hawai'i Board of Ethics. Dr. Sumner-Mack is a retired college professor and a
secondary school teacher. She holds a BA in English from Florida State University and
an MA and a Ph.D. from Brown University.
Prior to retirement, Dr. Sumner-Mack taught English and History courses at several
universities and colleges and later taught secondary English in Pahoa and
Laupahoehoe. Dr. Sumner-Mack is also a world traveler and has lived in different parts
of the globe. She is an active member of our island community and has served as past
president of the local AAUW (American Association of University Women), former chair
of her local neighborhood watch, a consultant to the YWCA, and many more. She has
resided in Hawai'i for over 17 years.
Dr. Sumner-Mack states she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she
will serve a 5 year term ending December 31, 2022.
