PLACE: Councilroom
TIME: 1:30 p.m.
Chairman and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii
your Committee on Planning, to which was referred
Resolution No . 100-85 , regarding Congressional bills HR 1562 and
S 680, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 100-85 urges Congress and the President of the
United States to prevent passage of bills HR 1562 and S 680 in order
to protect Hawaii 's garment industry, which is one of Hawaii 's major
industries .
Congressional bills HR 1562 and S 680 propose to reduce America 's
import of apparel and textiles from eleven Asian nations and Brazil
by 35% . Hawaii 's garment industry relies heavily on imported cloth
for garment production and would face possible demise if textile
imports are reduced.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with Resolution No. 100-85 and
recommends it adoption.
