Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred
'Resolution No . 55-85 regarding expression of support to the Soil
Conservation Service, reports as follows:
The purposes of this resolution are to:
1 , express the County Council 's commitment to advocate the
preservation of Hawaii County 's soil and water resources; •
2 , commend the Soil Conservation Service on the occasion of
its fiftieth anniversary and
3 . express the County Council 's support for the continued
involvement of the Soil Conservation Service in providing
technical and financial assistance in helping to solve
Hawaii 's soil and water problems .
The National Administration 's 1986 budget proposal calls for:
(1 ) reducing by two-thirds the funding for technical assistance to
farmers and ranchers and (2) the elimination of major construction
programs under the Soil Conservation Service .
Your Committee on Planning concurs with Resolution No. 55-85 and
recommends its adoption.
