N,� <br /> ` <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII {� �` /�•- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> �TE OF'N''- <br /> RESOLUTION NO. . 95 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE COVO <br /> FOUNDATION FOR THE 2017 FILIPINO-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH <br /> CELEBRATION AND BARRIO FIESTA. <br /> WHEREAS, the COVO Foundation(Congress of Visayan Organizations Foundation) is <br /> a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that preserves Filipino cultural traditions and promotes the <br /> educational development of Filipinos in Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, the 111th Congress passed House Resolution 780 in 2009 to officially <br /> designate October as Filipino-American History Month (also known as Filipino-American <br /> Heritage Month) to provide an opportunity for all Americans to appreciate and learn about <br /> Filipino-American history, culture, and traditions; and <br /> WHEREAS, the COVO Foundation cosponsored and participated in the 2017 Filipino- <br /> American Heritage Month celebration and Barrio Fiesta that was held in October at the <br /> University of Hawai`i at Hilo campus; and <br /> WHEREAS, the COVO Foundation is requesting funds for the reimbursement of food, <br /> advertising, printing, and the rental of a PA system for the 2017 Filipino-American Heritage <br /> Month celebration and Barrio Fiesta; and <br /> WHEREAS,this celebration falls within the goals of the Department of Research and <br /> Development to increase the economic contribution of the visitor industry to Hawai`i Island, <br /> promotequality experiences for visitors, and promote a high quality of life for Hawai`i Island <br /> residents; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the COVO Foundation for the 2017 Filipino- <br /> American Heritage Month celebration and Barrio Fiesta. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
