Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred
Communication No. 572, reports as follows:
Communication No. 572, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated October 25, 2017, nominates
Ms. Carolle Brulee-Wilson to the Veterans Advisory Committee. Ms. Brulee-Wilson served in the
United States Navy from 1982-1996 and was honorably discharged with medals.
Ms. Brulee-Wilson has been a resident of Hawai`i for over 21 years and has volunteered her time with
the Disabled American Veterans, Office of Veterans Services Advisory Board,Hilo Veterans Day
Parade committee, and many others.
Ms. Brulee-Wilson appeared in the Kailua-Kona Council Chambers and shared her experiences of
actively seeking veterans at their homes and advocating for services and needs that the veterans were
entitled to. She stated she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term
ending December 31, 2018.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Brulee-Wilson. Chair Ruggles stated that
Ms. Brulee-Wilson did not need to appear at the Council meeting on December 5, 2017, for
confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-61 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Mayor shall
appoint, with the approval of Council, a representative from various veteran associations to serve
on the Veterans Advisory Committee.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Communication No. 572, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of
Ms. Carolle Brulee-Wilson to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
