Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Arne Werchick of Council District 7 to the Board of
Appeals. Mr. Werchick is a retired civil trial attorney who represented plaintiffs in
professional liability and similar complex litigation. He obtained his law degree from the
University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) and his undergraduate
degree from the University of California Berkeley: He has been a resident of Hawai'i for
approximately 4 years.
Mr. Werchick states he has a lifelong interest in community planning and development
and has served in several planning commissions and review boards on the mainland.
He is a current board member of the Friends of the Libraries-Kona and the Aloha
Performing Arts Company. He has also authored several books and other legal
publications.
Mr. Werchick is a member of the Democratic party. If confirmed, he will serve a term
ending December 31, 2021.
Due to the needs of the committee this nomination seeks to fill, I respectfully request
that this item be waived at Committee and placed on the full Council agenda for
December 20, 2017. Should you have any questions, please contact me at your
earliest convenience. Your review and favorable confirmation is requested.

Hawai`i County Board of Appeals.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Planning to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
