Enclosed, for your review and approval, is a resolution
authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, through its Highway
Safety Program, for a Highway Safety Project reimbursement grant
for the purchase of extrication tools by the Hawaii County Fire
Department.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Hawaii County Fire Department received a federal grant through
the Department of Transportation, State and Community Highway
Safety Program. The funds are for the period 4/1/99 - 9/30/99 and
are 100% reimbursable. The project is entitled "Extrication Tool"
and will be used to upgrade the equipment that fire personnel use
to respond to emergency victims of automobile collisions.
