Public Testimony of Gary Yoshiyama on behalf of HGEA/AFSCME in support of
Resolution No. 103-99, "Approving Collective Bargaining Cost Items for the included
employees of the County of Hawaii in Bargaining Unit O1 (United Public Workers).
On behalf of the Hawaii Government Employees' Association, AFSCME, Local 152, AFL-CIO,
we seek your support of Resolution No. 103-99 approving collective bargaining cost items for
the included employees of the County of Hawaii in Bargaining Unit Ol represented by our sister
Union in AFSCME.. the United Public Workers.
After bargaining in good faith and in accordance with our public sector collective bargaining
law, an agreement was struck between the Employers and the UPW in 1998. You have before
you a tour year agreement which is about to expire yet has not been fully executed.
The employees of Unit Ol has lived up to their part in the bargaining process and in accordance
with the agreement. Earlier this month you made appropriations in the upcoming tiscal year's
budget to fund these cost items.
Your approval of cost items for Bargaining Unit Ol is the last and critical step in bringing this
collective bargaining process to a satisfactory conclusion. Your affirmative vote on this
resolution is needed and appreciated.
