Real-Time Captioning of County Council Television Coverage
We are two of many deaf, voting citizens and taxpayers who reside in the County
of Hawaii. Whereas other citizens have full access to televized meetings of the
County Council, we do not in the absence of closed captioning. The technology exists
to provide closed captioning on a real- time basis.
The number of persons who might benefit is not precisely known, but estimates
run to about one thousand of us on this island, of whom probably one hundred fifty are
profoundly deaf.
In the interest of fairness and equal access under ADA requirements, for
ourselves and others, we respectfully ask that real time captioning lie funded for
Council meetings that are televixed in Hawaii.
