�J�tYOFN ; <br /> iY <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII 1-i.Pzk-'- \/*.; STATE OF HAWAII <br /> .•.•:�,•.,rE OF''MA' , <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 459 18 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIIAN <br /> SANCTUARY INC. FOR ITS PLANT ALOHA PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides <br /> Hawaiian cultural and agricultural education programs to the Puna community; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc.'s Plant Aloha project provides a year-long series <br /> of free classes on sustainable farming systems, including permaculture, Korean Natural Farming, <br /> Jadam Organic Farming, and traditional Native Hawaiian cultural planting methods; and <br /> WHEREAS, the objective of this project is to promote and nurture the philosophies and <br /> practices of sustainable farming to increase local food production and provide greater food <br /> security in Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. will host free sustainable farming classes once a <br /> week(50 classes) and once a month(12 classes), depending on the subject matter; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is requesting financial assistance for advertising, <br /> printed materials, and experiential learning supplies for the Plant Aloha sustainable farming <br /> classes; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Plant Aloha project falls within the Department of Research and <br /> Development's mission to facilitate leadership and education to communities that support and <br /> promote agricultural sustainability; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> g Y <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program,project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. for its Plant Aloha <br /> project. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
