Os ti. <br /> ,`IeJ�, <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII t= �'—'°= '/.t- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> RESOLUTION NO. .463 18 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO GOING HOME <br /> HAWAII FOR ITS PU'UHONUA 0 HILO PILOT PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to <br /> prevent recidivism among former offenders by successfully reintegrating them back into the <br /> community and the workplace; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i has established its Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot project to <br /> bring indigenous Hawaiian concepts of a place of peace, safety, and healing into social services <br /> for offenders; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot project is designed to address the issue of <br /> Native Hawaiians being overrepresented among inmates in the criminal justice system; and <br /> WHEREAS, this pilot project is designed to reduce recidivism among this target <br /> population by using traditional Hawaiian concepts to help today's prisoners; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is requesting funds to defray the costs for housing, <br /> utilities, and supplies that are associated with the Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports projects that improve the <br /> criminal justice system by identifying areas of need and working collaboratively with other <br /> criminal justice agencies and the community to employ early intervention initiatives to improve <br /> the quality of life in Hawai`i County; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Going Home Hawai`i for its Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot <br /> project. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
