G Nth'``•• <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 466 18 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LALAKEA <br /> FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH GROUND TRANSPORTATION EXPENSES <br /> DURING KA 'AHA HULA 0 HALAUAOLA 2018. <br /> WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization comprising rid <br /> kumu hula and hula practitioners that seeks to perpetuate native Hawaiian arts and traditional <br /> cultural and spiritual practices; and <br /> WHEREAS, beginning in 2001 and continuing every four to five years thereafter, <br /> Lalakea Foundation has organized an international hula conference known as Ka `Aha Hula 0 <br /> Halauaola; and <br /> WHEREAS, the next Ka `Aha Hula 0 Halauaola will be held in Hilo from June 14 to <br /> June 23, 2018, with an estimated 1,200 participants; and <br /> WHEREAS, registered Ka `Aha Hula 0 Halauaola participants will have workshops <br /> around Hilo,take na huaka`i (excursions) around Hawai`i Island, and offer five evenings of hula <br /> and music performances to the public at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is seeking assistance with the cost of ground <br /> transportation between Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium and other workshop venues, <br /> including Hawai`i Community College, the University of Hawai`i at Hilo main campus, and Ka <br /> Haka 'Ula 0 Ke'elikOlani College of Hawaiian Language; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation promotes, perpetuates, and <br /> encourages activities and programs in culture, art, history, and the humanities; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Lalakea Foundation to assist with the cost of <br /> providing ground transportation during Ka `Aha Hula 0 Halauaola 2018. <br />
