OF�M�'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 467- 18 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LALAKEA <br /> FOUNDATION FOR THE 2018 KA `AHA HULA '0 HALAUAOLA CONFERENCE. <br /> WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is <br /> to perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and culture, including hula, chant, and other traditional <br /> practices; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ka 'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola, a project of Lalakea Foundation, is a gathering <br /> of kumu hula, cultural practitioners, and noted scholars from Hawai`i and around the world who <br /> come together to share their knowledge with others; and <br /> WHEREAS,the 2018 Ka 'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola conference will be held in Hilo on <br /> June 14-23 and consist of workshops,presentations, and visits to historic, sacred, and <br /> educational sites around Hawai`i Island to elevate and expand the participants' foundation and <br /> understanding of the Hawaiian culture through the art of hula; and <br /> WHEREAS, based on past conferences, it is estimated that over 1,000 participants will <br /> be attending the 2018 Ka `Aha Hula '0 Halauaola conference, and Lalakea Foundation is <br /> requesting funds for bus service to shuttle participants between workshop venues and <br /> presentations to help alleviate congestion in high-traffic areas; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this educational outreach <br /> as it falls within its Culture and Education program to promote, perpetuate, and encourage <br /> activities and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to,the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Lalakea Foundation for the 2018 Ka 'Aha Hula '0 <br /> Halauaola conference. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
