RESOLUTION NO. 480 18
A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT A
BILL FOR AN ACT REQUIRING THAT EACH DISTRICT HEALTH OFFICER BE A
PYHSICIAN LICENSED IN THE STATE OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS,the Council of the County of Hawai`i supports state legislation that would
require that each District Health Officer be a physician, licensed in the state of Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, the position of District Health Officer carries with it many responsibilities,
including but not limited to; serving the community with proficiencies in emergency
preparedness, family health services, public health nursing,services for the developmentally
delayed, environmental health services which includes vector control, clean air, clean water, and
sanitation programs, vital statistics (births, marriages, deaths), and mental health services ; and
WHEREAS, the District Health Officer must also be familiar with a multitude of
conditions and situations unique to our island, and must be able to make health assessments
based on sound medical training, experience and knowledge; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
Hawai`i State Legislature is urged to support a bill for an act requiring that each District Health
Officer be a physician licensed in the state of Hawai`i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawai`i County Council supports all efforts by
the Legislature to require that each District Health Officer in the State of Hawai`i be a physician
licensed in the State of Hawai`i.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Honorable Senators; Josh Green, Stanley Chang, Breene Harimoto, Jill N.
Tokuda, and Glenn Wakai, and to the Honorable Representatives; Richard P. Creagan, John M.
Mizuno, Bertrand Kobayashi,Della Au Belatti, Lei R. Learmont and Andria P.L. Tupola.
