Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution
No. 29 93 relating to the film industry, reports as follows :
The purpose of Resolution No. 29 93 acknowledges the film industry as
a new industry development within the Department of Research and
Development.
Public testimony from the Big Island Film and Video Association felt
that the development of the industry should be decided upon by those
within the film industry who havethe knowledge and experience rather
than within the Department of Research and Development.
Your Committee amended the first "WHEREAS" of Resolution No. 29 93 by
deleting the following:
WHEREAS, the [fledging] film industry[ , despite itserratic
nature, ] offers the Big Island' s economy a new industry
potential; and
Your Committee also amended in the "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED"
to read as follows :
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it acknowledges the film industry as a new
and welcomed industry [development project within the
Department of Research and Development] to the County of
Hawaii .
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the intent and purpose
of Resolution No. 29 93 , Draft 2, and recommends its adoption.
