RESOLUTION NO. 497 18
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ARTS &
SCIENCE CENTER FOR A PAHOA SKATE PARK EVENT.
WHEREAS, the Arts & Science Center (ASC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
was established in 2003 in Pahoa, that supports community development, greater access to
education, and improving the quality of life through learning with aloha; and
WHEREAS, the ASC is collaborating with the Friends of Pahoa Skate Park group to
provide for a Pahoa Skate Park event in March 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Pahoa Skate Park event will be free and open to the public and will
consist of a ceremony to officially name the Pahoa Skate Park the "Ginny Aste Skate Park" and a
celebration of the parks 10th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the ASC is requesting funds to offset the cost of advertising, sound

equipment, refreshments, and prizes for contests; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports community programs and
groups that work to improve and maintain recreational facilities and enhance its programs; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Art& Science Center to assist with funding for the
Pahoa Skate Park event in March 2018.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
