Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 99,
reports as follows:
Bill No. 99, transmitted by Council Chairwoman Valerie T. Poindexter, via Communication 718
dated January 18, 2018, amends the Parks and Recreation Facility Schedule, Chapter 15, Article 8,
Section 15- 68.1 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), by naming the
Lower Ballfield at Honoka`a Park the "Lala Epenesa, Jr., Ballfield," in honor of Lala Epenesa, Jr.
The committee received many letters and emails expressing positive support from the community for
this measure. Mr. Epenesa was a well-loved person, who was recognized for his valuable contributions
to the lives of children and adults in the community.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Bill 99, and recommends its passage on first reading.
