No. 719/Bill No. 100 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawai`i TIME: 9:06 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 100, reports as follows: Bill No. 100, transmitted by Council Member Jen Ruggles, via Communication 719 dated January 18, 2018, designates Tax Map Key: 1-5-002:020 as "Pahoa District Park"pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-67 of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended); amends Section 15-68.1 to add it to the Parks and Recreational Facility Schedule; and amends Article 9, Section 15-72 to add it to the Farmers Market Facility Schedule. This resolution officially designates the Pahoa District Park and adds it to the Farmers Market Facility Schedule to enhance sustainable agriculture objectives, encourage farm-to-table opportunities, and provide greater use of County parks and facilities by the public. There was positive support for this measure from the testifiers in the Hilo Chambers and the Pahoa Council video site. Pahoa Mainstreet officers supported both the renaming of the Pahoa District Park and its use as a Farmers Market site. Written testimony highlighted the improvement of the quality of life for the Pahoa community, while increasing economic activity for farmers and vendors.
