Aloha,
This letter is in regards to my vote for"Yes"on Bill No 99. Lala Epenesa was a huge impact on our
Hamakua community. He dedicated his time not only to community, but he lived for the youth. He spent
countless hours coaching kids,even on off season times and on weekends taking time to do one on one
session. He was present at almost every game coaching from sidelines if he wasn't the designated coach
for that sport,cheering on the kids like his own. It was easy to spot him on and off the field as he always
had some kind of coaches'shirt on and majority of times it was a"Dragons"shirt.He for sure bleed
"green and gold". A lot of the youth grasped to him instantly for knowledge or tips for a pick me up
when they were having a hard day. He was just always there! His famous words to the youth was"Don't
be sorry, Fix it"!
La was one to help out in any situation,for instance when he knew practice was going to run late, he
would pack up his portable stove, paper goods and cook dinner for the team, as he knew they would be
tired and probable still had homework to concentrate on. He not only made it easier for the kids, but for
the parents as well.
If there was a time that you need to contact him and he didn't answer his phone, 110%if you were
nearby and drove to the lower baseball field in Honokaa you would find him there.
With this being said, it would be an honor to have the field named after him. Let his legend live on!
