Lala Epenesa Jr. was one of those individuals. A coach to many, a father figure to most and a friend to all. His unconditional love and dedication to our community for decades will never be forgotten. One of the ways to ensure this happens is to honor his memory by naming the Honoka'a lower baseball field the Lala Epenesa Jr. Ballpark. He spent countless of hours with our keiki on and off the field. One of those keiki is my son who was privileged to call him coach for over 10 years. The life lessons he taught and the knowledge that he shared will continue to be passed down for generations to come. He sat on multiple boards and was a member of multiple groups all dedicated to serving our keiki. He had a contagious smile and laugh that could brighten anyone's day. We never heard the word no when asking him for help, even if it meant no rest for him as he shuffled between cooking for concessions for multiple sports, coaching different divisions, being a cheerleader and making sure the parks were cleaned all before going home. He believed in serving others never thinking about himself. Lala Epenesa Jr. was dedicated to our keiki baseball and softball, filling their lives with his positive and uplifting spirit. Honoka'a is honored and blessed to have had him in our lives. By naming the baseball field that he spent most of his days on after him, will be a small way to repay all that he has done and all those lives that he has touched.
