Re: Operating Budget
Hawai`i County Ordinance 08-37 establishes the Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits
Fund. These funds can be used for specific infrastructure projects or related improvements which
benefit the lower Puna area. The Planning Department supports the release of funds to be used by
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide access to computers and wireless internet
connection (Wi-Fi) at the Pahoa Community Center.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating $30,000 to the
Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund's Geothermal Parks and Recreation
account. Funds are to be used to provide services at the Pahoa Community Center as described

A. REQUEST:
The Planning Department Requests an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating $30,000
to the Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund's Geothermal Parks and Recreation account.
Funds are to be used to purchase equipment to provide services at the Pahoa Community Center. The
Planning Department supports the release of funds to be used by the Department of Parks and Recreation to
provide access to computers and wireless internet connection (Wi-Fi) at the Pahoa Community Center.
Please create an Ordinance to decrease the appropriation from the Geothermal Relocation and Community
Benefits Fund (Account Number 095.141.5143.02) by $30,000; and to increase the appropriation to the
Geothermal Parks & Recreation Fund (Account Number 095.500.5556.10) by $30,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Hawaii County Ordinance 08-37 establishes the Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund.
These funds can be used for specific infrastructure projects or related improvements which benefit the lower
Puna area. Requests for funding of projects with the Geothermal Relcoation and Community Benefits Fund
are reviewed and approved by the Planning Director with the concurrence of implementing departments.
