Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication
No. 749, reports as follows:
Communication 749, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated January 31, 2018, nominates
Scott Ancheta of Council District 6 to the Transportation Commission. Mr. Ancheta has worked in the
high-tech industry for approximately 17 years and is currently employed as a Vice President of Business
Development at Dimension Data, an international company specializing in Information Technology. He
previously worked at CISCO Systems, Inc., where he did extensive work on Smart Cities, traffic
management and self-driving transportation systems.
Mr. Ancheta holds a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and
an Executive Master in Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania-The Wharton
School. Mr. Ancheta and his family relocated to the Big Island from Texas about a year ago.
Mr. Ancheta is a registered Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term ending December 31, 2022.
Mr. Ancheta was present in the Kailua-Kona Council Chambers and several Council Members
welcomed the technological skills he brings to the commission. Chair Ruggles stated that Mr. Ancheta
did not need to be present at the next Council meeting on March 14, 2018, for confirmation of his
appointment.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication 749, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Scott Ancheta to the
Transportation Commission.
