Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication
No. 750,reports as follows:
Communication 750, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated January 31, 2018, nominates
Stanley Marks of Council District 8 to the Transportation Commission. Mr. Marks has extensive
knowledge of transportation operations having worked for Horizon Air, Pepsi Cola, and Bolton, Inc., a
construction company. He attended the University of Idaho and the International Air Academy, in
Vancouver, Washington and has lived in Hawai`i for approximately 26 years and is familiar with the
transportation challenges of our island.
Mr. Marks is not affiliated with any political party; if confirmed, he will serve a vacant term ending
December 31, 2018 and will qualify to apply for re-appointment to a full five-year term. He was present
in the Kailua-Kona Council Chambers and responded to questions. Chair Ruggles stated Mr. Marks did
not need to be present at the next Council meeting on March 14, 2018, for confirmation of his
appointment.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication 750, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Stanley Marks to the
Transportation Commission.
