RESOLUTION NO. 538 18
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LALAKEA
FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH ITS KA `AHA HULA '0 HALAUAOLA 2018
CONFERENCE.
WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is
to perpetuate the ancient art form of hula and other traditional cultural practices; and
WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is coordinating Ka 'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola 2018,
which is a learning and enrichment conference for hula practitioners and cultural learners from
Hawai`i and around the world; and
WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is expecting about 1,200 participants to attend the Ka
'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola 2018 conference on Hawai`i Island, which will be held from June 14
through June 23; and
WHEREAS, Lalakea Foundation is requesting funds for advertising and transportation
for the participants of the Ka'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola 2018 conference; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs and
community initiatives that promote and share the Native Hawaiian culture and history with
Hawai`i Island residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Lalakea Foundation to assist with transportation
and advertising expenses for the Ka 'Aha Hula '0 Halauaola 2018 conference.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
