i --",p51°_ p,' .. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII ::-(4\_�' i•- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> +f <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 541 18 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BOY SCOUTS OF <br /> AMERICA FOR A SCOUT CAMP AT PU`U WA`AWA`A PRESERVE. <br /> WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, prepares young <br /> people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of <br /> the Scout Oath and Law; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Cub Scout program focuses on parent monitored advancement that <br /> emphasizes learning about the community, family understanding, personal achievement, fun and <br /> adventure, and preparation for Boy Scouts; and <br /> WHEREAS, the youth scouting units ages 6-18, from Hamakua, Kohala, and Kona <br /> Coast will be participating in a service project and camping activities at the Pu`u Wa`awa`a <br /> Preserve on May 4-5, 2018; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America will collaborate with the Department of Land <br /> and Natural Resources (DLNR) and Department of Fish and Wildlife (DOFAW) to provide a <br /> biology/science and cultural program where they will learn about the native Hawaiian plants that <br /> grow in the area, as well as go through the native Hawaiian cultural process of planting; and <br /> WHEREAS, this event also provides a mentoring opportunity for the older Scouts to <br /> work with the younger Cub Scouts by helping them through the planting and trail building <br /> process; and <br /> WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America is requesting funds to help with first aid and i <br /> medical supplies, camping and activity supplies, training, insurance, and other miscellaneous <br /> expenses associated with the Scout camp; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports improving the lives of <br /> young people through supervised recreational activities intended to promote growth and learning <br /> in a safe environment; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Boy Scouts of America for a Scout camp at <br /> Pu`u Wa`awa`a Preserve. <br />
